Victorian: A
set of genuine Cross-legged Squire toby jugs that have lived
with each other from when first made circa 1870-80. Usually
these sets are matched so it's a wonderful rare sight to see
this set of three. All with their original detachable hats and
in excellent condition, their coats in cobalt blue and waistcoats
pink, seated on naturalistic rural bases. The robust characters
in graduated heights are 11-9 & 8.5 inches approx. Condition
No restorations, a super set of fine quality.

toby jug of a Snufftaker with his original detachable hat. Popular
toby for a collection, he is said to represent Benjamin Franklin
who had the habit of taking snuff. Well coloured and nice clean
quality pearlware glaze. Height 10 inches wearing his hat. Condition

An enamel well
decorated toby jug celebrating the plentiful time of Christmas,
toby is shown with a well stocked tureen or basket filled with
rabbit and green vegetable leaves. A fruiting vine hat decoration
and gilding to his cuffs and "Merry Christmas" title.Height
8 inches. Condition: very tiny chip to hat restored. Circa 1840.

of John Bull with a date code to his base for c1890-91.Well
coloured wearing an original detachable hat and seated with
his money bag at his side. Height 9.75 inches with his hat in.
Condition: no restoration, good clean quality and nice crisp
features.

model of Nelson, standing against a cannon, his handle and base
well decorated in rural shades. His face and waistcoat with
fine enamel detailing and his cobalt blue coat in rich under
glaze colouring.. Height 11.5 inches Condition: very minor enamel
ware to brown on front of base retouched on a small chip.(can
be seen in photo).

Marked Sampson
& Smith 1851 in his base, this Cross-legged Squire toby
is well coloured and was produced in circa 1860-70 period. Height

& Judy character toby jugs with their original detachable
hats. A colourful pair from the circa 1890-1900 period. Heights
wearing hats: Punch 12 & Judy 11.5 inches Condition: no

Smaller version
of a Sampson and Smith type ( no marks to base) Cross-legged
Squire. These came in an array of sizes that were all well coloured,
he sits with both hands clasping his tankard. Height 7.5 inches
with his original detachable hat in. Condition: no restorations
but some enamel ware on his handle.

Has the title
greetings "Merry Christmas" written on this earlier
Victorian model character toby jug probably from the Davenport
factory circa 1840 (not marked). His colouring is of typical
pallet of other marked pottery I've had from this factory. The
hat, back & handle with seasonal design of "The Holly
& the Ivy" both hands supporting a tureen or basket
topped with game rabbit surounded by green leaves.Toby's wearing
a black coat, picked out with yellow buttons, ruddy red face
and hands. Height 8 inches Condition no restorations, nice clean
quality pearlware glaze, crisp molding.
